Rammstein

My expectation was high. The anticipation in me was electric. I was at Big Day Out 2011 and Rammstein were headlining. Actually I think Iggy Pop was but in my mind Rammstein were headlining.

I booked tickets within seconds of them going on sale. I was going no matter what?

I have followed Rammstein since their early beginnings. I have owned 4 copies of Sehnsucht, every single time I own it, someone steals it. What this says about Rammstein is that I would continue to buy there CD another 100 times. That alone says something about this band.

As a fan, Sehnsucht was the defining moment of who Rammstein were as a group. A High Energy German Metal band that made  the German language sound sexy,  leaving you wanting more. It's the type of music that commands attention at full volume while. It will piss your neighbours off, they will probably think the German antichrist lives next door with Du Hast thumping through the air. If you translate that song into English I am the neighbour from hell.

There is nothing soft about them. Hard German men who probably know how to drink a good bit of Vodka. I was standing in a crowd of thousands waiting to see them take the stage.

My expectations were exceeded beyond belief. Epic!!!!

The build up to Rammstein coming on was high. The buzz in the crowd was electrifying. Iggy Pop had just finished his set and the crowd erupted. Poor Iggy thought the applause was for him as an encore, sadly it wasn't and all you could hear was an unmistakable chant rumbling from the crowd

'Rammstein-Rammstein-Rammstein'

Sorry Iggy, no encore for you. We want Rammstein!

A faint guitar starts from behind the black sheet, a solo guitar riff that builds into a veil dropping start.

The crowd explodes as Till Lindemann walks onto the stage and demands attention. For the next hour I was treated to a visual and aural orgasm.

Not only do Rammstein scream Sex Appeal in massive proportions; well all except the glitter guy who reminds me of H from Red Dwarf and he's just not sexy. Till  Linndeman and his guitarists are a little visual pocket of happiness and I will keep these men in my memory for years to come.

Till Lindemann's outfit was sadistic and raw. Like something out of a horror movie. He is wired for effect and has a globe lighting system coming from his mouth. Horror Surrealist knife sharpening madness with fire balls and face masks that blew fire off the guitarists faces; five feet into the air!

The theatrical element to the show was dark and sinister, it was the best use of pyrotechnics I have ever seen.

Impressed Much? Hell Yeah!!!

We may not speak German here in New Zealand but we know how to sing German.

A totally Impressive show with favourites like Ich Will and Feuer Frei it couldn't get much better until I got home and realised I had this photo.

Sensational!!!
